Sometimes, it feels stupid....
To be so excited to graduate with an AA. I plan on walking, buying a cap and gown AND High Honors cord. I'm inviting people. I'm planning on having a party (combo graduation and "goiter away" party pre-surgery).

But ... it's an AA. Not a BS or BA or even more.

BUT BUT!!! It has taken me five years and three schools to get the damn thing and I am sooper proud of myself for actually FINISHING something that isn't craft related. Some grandeur is allowed, I would think.

You WORK IT, girl!

You've busted ass and deserve all the grandeur. (I dare you to put a tiara on your cap!)

It's a degree! Finishing a degree is always awesome and excitement-worthy. Grandeur totally allowed. Nay, demanded.
Aimee: Defying Gravity[info]aimeejmc on April 6th, 2009 06:22 pm (UTC)
Yes! Demanded!! So sayeth tamara!!

I think it's worth grandeur! You've been persistent and determined, and you've done a good job, dammit!

So, yay you!

Nuts, wrong Muppet for this.
PAR-TEE! PAR-TEE! PAR-TEE! AN-EE-MAL! AN-EE-MAL!

*pant pant*

*headbashes the drumkit*

I didn't do the walk or get any of the regalia (ha!) when I left Chicago, because I couldn't wait to get out of the place, and I couldn't stand the thought of spending much more time there, and I especially didn't like what UC had done to me.

Now, because I've gone back to finish this damn thing, and it means so much more to me, I plan on inviting lotsa folks to my defense, and I plan on walking the walk, even though I'll likely have to come back to town for the event. That, and the robe's got those cool stripes on the sleeve, and the hat becomes shapeless and floppy! Ha!

So. This degree, even "if it's only" an AA, means a lot to you. That's all that matters. Celebrate the achievement! That's what I'm planning on doing. :-D

You should be proud of yourself, and you deserve the party. I don't know how you manage a toddler, school, and work. It's impressive.

yes, this.
I wish I'd made a bigger deal of mine, but it felt unseemly, and I thought there'd be loads of Big Days ahead.
in retrospect, nsm.

While your perseverance has been impressive, I'm even more proud of how you approached your education. You worked hard on your papers, and you took your subjects to heart. You didn't just do the work; you learned the material.

I think you're pretty fucking awesome.
Aimee[info]aimeejmc on April 6th, 2009 08:08 pm (UTC)
Thanks, Hec. Than you so much.

I think you're pretty fucking awesome, yourself.

don't be so dismissive of that degree. There are a lot of people who start college, and can't even finish "just an AA". And I agree with Hec, not only did you earn it, you LEARNED it. Hold your head up high. You have a degree!!

Congrats!!!

I'm proud of you too, hon. I had *nothing* to do with it, so it's completely unearned on my part. But damn, I'm proud to know you!
Aimee[info]aimeejmc on April 9th, 2009 12:37 pm (UTC)
But damn, I'm proud to know you!

That feeling is incredibly mutual.

A lot of us may have gone to a four year school right out of HS and maybe we worked while we were taking classes. But most of us didn't work full time, we didn't have a child to raise, a husband to consider, a household to keep together, a move across country....

I think you walk proud and tall. And keep on walking through your BS and your MA!!!!

You can do this and so much more Aimee. You've got what it takes and you deserve to be proud. You are an excellent role model.
